Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book my Flight ?
Your gift pack includes a flight voucher valid for six months.  When you have a date in mind simply call the Academy on 01446 710000 or via e-mail at info@cardiffacademyofaviation.co.uk and we will book you in.  Don't forget to bring your voucher on the day.  Please note that flying is a weather dependant activity and your safety is of paramount importance to us.  There is therefore a small chance that your flight may have to be rearranged due to adverse weather conditions - should this be the case, we will attempt to give you as much notice as possible, but please call the Academy for a weather check before you set out.

What Should I Wear ?
On the day, please wear sensible footwear and comfortable clothing.  You may also wish to bring a pair of sunglasses to guard against the glare of the sun.  All aviation equipment will be provided by the Academy.

Who can accompany me ?
Your friends and family are most welcome to watch you take off from our panoramic all weather viewing gallery, and relax in our comfortable bar and restaurant area whilst they wait for you to touch down.  Don't forget to bring your camera or video equipment to record the event.

What happens on the day ?
Upon arriving at the Academy, you will be met by your fully qualified instructor who will undertake a one-to-one safety briefing and introduce you to the aircraft controls.  Whilst taxiing down the runway of Cardiff International Airport - possibly behind a commercial jet or two - you'll listen in to Air Traffic Control and wait for your take off slot.

You'll speed down the runway, then take to the skies high above Cardiff.  Once airborne and out of controlled airspace, your instructor will take you on a scenic tour of the South Wales countryside, you may well be able to pick out some of the local attractions from the air, such as the Millennium Stadium or Cardiff Castle.  Your instructor will offer you the opportunity to take the control's and fly the aircraft yourself - in complete safety, as all our training aircraft are dual control...

What happens when I land ?
After touch down, you will receive a certificate to mark your achievement.  You are then free to join your friends and family in the lounge bar, relax on the sun terrace and watch the runway activity or browse in our aviation shop.

So when can I fly again ?
The trial flight counts towards the hours required to complete the Private Pilots Licence - your instructor will be happy to discuss Cardiff Academy of Aviation's range of PPL tuition packages with you.

We look forward to flying with you.
